On the road at 8:15 this morning for a long drive. Very soon after leaving Narrandera we were in the outback. It is always hard to define where it starts, but certainly the land was flat and for the most part treeless. The cloud formations in the wide skies seem different to elsewhere.
Before long we were driving through endless cotton fields, which are currently being harvested. Then, when the agriculture petered out we saw plenty of flocks [or is it herds?] of emus.
Stopped in Hay for a break and then again in Balranald to eat our lunch. This is a tiny town on the Murrumbidgee over which we found a great swing bridge. The area is home to an endangered frog which is celebrated with quirky statues around the town.

We then passed into the fruit growing areas of Sunraysia which are irrigated from the Murray river. Here there are vast orchards of citrus fruit, grapes and olives. We arrived in Wentworth about an hour and a half before sunset so had time for a quick walk along the Darling river which borders the caravan park in which we are staying.
