The weather was still spectacular today and we made a side trip to Pooncarrie on the Darling river before returning to Wentworth. The town was once a busy river port but all that remains now is a neat and tidy little village of 60 people!

Once back in Wentworth we did a walking tour of the town looking at the many old buildings which were built in a time of prosperity [late 1800's]. Once the railway network became extensive the paddlesteamer trade on the river just petered out and most of these little towns were in decline by the 1920's.

We finished up in a funny little museum run by the local rotary. A lot of these country museums are just repositories for any old junk the locals offer and this was no exception. It's all jumbled together with little explanation but there was some interesting stuff amongst it. The mega fauna display was quite good with scale replicas of a marsupial lion, giant emu, giant wombat and a massive goanna some 3 metres in length.
