5th September 2014
Big drive south today, which was the first sunny day since we've been back in WA; it got quite warm in the afternoon, about 28 degrees.

Abbey Church, New Norcia |
On the way south we stopped off in New Norcia, a monastic town founded in 1846 by Spanish monks. The architecture is Spanish and many of the buildings were designed by Monsignor Hawes, an architect priest, as were a number of other churches in the area.

Mission Cottage, New Norcia |
In the late 19th century the monastery operated as an aboriginal mission and a number of cottages were constructed to encourage families to live there and learn how to farm. Only one of these now remains.

Serpentine Falls |
After arriving in Serpentine we went for a short walk along the Gooralong Brook, which was very pretty with lots of flowering shrubs.
